So you've been invited to a Zoom interview - congratulations 🥳
Zoom is a piece of software we use to conduct virtual interviews. It's not too complicated to use, but there are a few tips that'll help it run smoother for you:
If it's your first time on Zoom, jump on early: The first time you join a Zoom meeting, it'll prompt you to download the program onto your computer. You don't have to create an account, but you DO need to download the software to be able to join. It doesn't take long, but make sure you've sorted this well before your interview starts - that way if there are any issues you'll have time to fix them!
Watch this video: If you haven't used Zoom before, take a minute to watch this video. It's just a simple run through of how to join a meeting so you're all set to go when the time comes.
Practice with a mate: Doing an interview over video can feel a little different to talking face-to-face. One of the things that helps is if you're really familiar with the software you're using. If you want to, you can jump onto the Zoom website (zoom.us) and make yourself a free account. That way, you can use it to practice with a friend or someone in your family. Make sure you know how to mute and un-mute, turn your video on and off and use the chat function.
Have some questions prepared: Avoid that awkward silence after the inevitable "so, do you have any questions for me?" question at the end of the interview. Think of a few things you can ask before you head in - things like "what do you like best about working here?" or "What kind of training do you offer?".
